Angelina Jolie opens all-girls school in Afghanistan

Angelina Jolie has opened an all-girls school in Afghanistan, and plans to fund more with the proceeds from her jewelry line, E! News reports.

The primary school is located outside of Kabul and currently educates between 200-300 girls, E! said. Jolie, 37, reportedly chose the area because of its high population of refugees.

The Oscar winner and humanitarian, who is a special envoy for the United Nations' refugee agency, plans to open similar institutions around the world, E! added, and will fund the project by releasing her Style of Jolie jewelry collection. All profits from sales of the line will go to her new foundation, The Education Partnership for Children of Conflict.

"Beyond enjoying the artistic satisfaction of designing these jewels, we are inspired by knowing our work is also serving the mutual goal of providing for children in need," Jolie told E! of the collection, which she created with jeweler Robert Procop.

Procop added: "The beauty of these creations is matched by the beauty of spirit behind Angelina's most heartfelt mission -- to empower children in crisis. ... For me it's an honor to have the opportunity to be a part of creating this line with Angie, as we both believe every child has a right to an education."

The Style of Jolie collection will make its retail debut on Thursday at Tivol, a jeweler in Kansas City, Mo., according to Tivol's website. No price details were released.

Jolie, who has six children with fiance Brad Pitt, recently returned from a visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo, where she campaigned to end widespread rape in war zones.
